PHARR, Texas - The inaugural interleague summer All-Star Game series will be decided on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at Valley View High School Stadium in Hidalgo when the South Texas Premier Soccer Association (STXPSA) 18-and-Under All-Stars take on the Brownsville All-Stars in the decisive second-leg matchup.
Valley View High School’s stadium is located on Jackson Rd. and Hi Line in Hidalgo.
The Brownsville All-Stars won the first-leg of the All-Star Game series 3-2 on Aug. 9 at the Brownsville Sports Park to take a one-goal lead into tomorrow’s game. In the event of a tie (aggregate score) at the end of regulation time, the winner will be decided in a penalty kick series.
The All-Star Games involving the two youth summer league programs marks the first time a series of this nature is played between the most talented 14 to 18 year old players from the Rio Grande Valley.
As part of the festivities of Tuesday’s All-Star Game, the STXPSA will recognize standout Valley players Reynol Fuentes of Mission and Damián “Niño” López of McAllen during halftime. Fuentes is a defender for the Heat, while López plays forward for the Laredo squad.
After the All-Star Game, a brief trophy ceremony will be held. The Coordinator of the Mexican Consulate’s Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (Institute for Mexicans in the Exterior), Claudia Trujillo, will do the honors and present the trophy and medals to the players.
