McALLEN, Texas - Álvarez Jrs. and Starr United will faceoff at noon on Saturday, Oct. 3 and will look to end each other’s unbeaten streaks in Week 3 of the South Texas Premier Soccer Association's Elite U-20 League at the Springfest soccer fields.

The match will also be a battle between representatives of Hidalgo and Starr counties. Álvarez Jrs., which corresponds to Hidalgo county, has a 2-0-0 record for six points, the same amount as their Saturday morning rival, Starr United, the Starr county representative.

Álvarez Jrs. defeated Valley View Dos Ríos and Manny’s Electric in their first two games of the Apertura 2009 season and currently hold the league’s runner up spot by goal differential over Starr United.

Starr United notched their first two wins of the year after beating Manny’s Electric and Edinburg, respectively.

Each team has one of the top four leading goal scorers in the league. Former McAllen Rowe standout Marcos Ruiz has perforated the opponents net four times on behalf of Álvarez Jrs., while José Rivera has done the same for Starr United.

Three teams will have a chance to break into the win column this weekend when Edinburg (0-0-2) hosts league-leading Deportivo Álvarez (2-0-0) and Manny’s Electric (0-0-2) face Valley View Dos Ríos (1-0-1), both games at 10 a.m., and Edcouch (0-0-2) will take on Santos Laguna (1-0-1) at noon.

The Elite U-20 League is the first of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley. The league was established to continue the development of local soccer talent in the area.
