PHARR, Texas - The South Texas Premier Soccer Association Elite U-20 League will debut on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Springfest Soccer Fields in McAllen.
The inaugural youth league will kick off with two matches at 10 a.m. and another pair at noon. The Springfest Soccer Fields are located on S. 23rd Street, south of Expressway 83.
The inaugural games will match up Edinburg against Santos Laguna on Field No. 3, while Edcouch takes on Deportivo Álvarez at Field No. 4.
Meanwhile, the noon matches will pit Manny’s Electric against Starr United on Field No. 3 and Álvarez Jrs. against Valley View Dos Ríos on Field 4.
The Elite U-20 League is the first of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley. The league was established to continue the development of local soccer talent in the area.
The STXPSA is affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), United Soccer Leagues (USL), the Premier Development League (PDL), RGV Bravos FC and the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA).
The cost to register a team with a 22-man roster is $400, which includes a $50 performance bond. The Apertura 2009 season of the U-20 league is played from September to December.
